Who We Are
The Social Change Organization (SCO) is a regional, locally led initiative created by a collective of experienced activists, and movement builders from across South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA). We come from the movements we seek to support: gender, sexual, and bodily rights movements that have grown, resisted, and adapted under some of the most restrictive political and social conditions in the region.
We are not a campaigning or advocacy organization. Instead, SCO functions as a regional hub for learning, capacity development, and movement support. Our work centers on strengthening the skills, resilience, and strategic thinking of activists and organizations, particularly those operating within SWANA under restrictive legal, political, and digital environments.
Grounded in feminist, queer, and social justice values, SCO prioritizes care, safety, accountability, and collective leadership. We believe that sustainable social change depends not only on visibility and advocacy, but also on knowledge production, peer learning, institutional memory, and the long-term wellbeing of movements and the people within them. SCO is a space for continuity and renewal; a place where past lessons meet present challenges, and where regional solidarity is rebuilt through trust, collaboration, and shared learning.

Vision
A Middle East and North Africa where gender and sexual equality movements are resilient, connected, and sustainable, with activists and organizations equipped to navigate restrictive environments safely, creatively, and collectively, while carrying forward and renewing the legacy of regional struggles for justice and inclusion.

Mission
The Social Change Organization (SCO) exists to serve as a regional hub for learning, capacity development, and knowledge production for gender and sexual equality movements in the MENA region. SCO preserves and critically engages with the institutional memory of past regional initiatives while rebuilding and adapting capacity-building, leadership development, and movement support to respond to today’s political, social, and digital realities. Grounded in local leadership and regional solidarity, SCO strengthens the ability of activists, especially those working within the region, to sustain their work, collaborate across borders, and lead transformative social change with care and resilience.
